Of rocks, pebbles and sand
You may have heard this metaphor about rocks, pebbles and sand.
The rocks are your most important priorities and the smaller pebbles and even smaller grains of sand represent the lesser priorities in your life.
I really really love this metaphor.
Here’s why: this isn’t just a method to manage time, it’s a way to mindfully move through our day and life. When we know, really know, what our priorities are and the values which are at the core fibre of our very being, we are able to flow through our days with far greater ease, joy and fulfillment.
We no longer fall prey to the three hijackers of growth:
Confidence crisis
Chaotic overcommitment of our energy
Clouded focus for our limited time
We have a higher focus governing our lives which acts as an anchor whenever we notice ourselves in self-doubt, overwhelm or low-motivation to take action.
Do you know, like really know, what your core values are?
I recently spent an afternoon leading a Visioning Next Steps lunch for a group of inspiring women who are creating impact in their work. The objective of the gathering was to support these women to really find and feel into their flow - in work, time management, overall confidence, and belief in what they are growing.
We spent a few hours getting clear on our values, our personal mission statement and our overall goals for the next year.
By the end of our time together, what struck me most was how much more clear, focused and impactful these women felt once they were mindfully plugged into their core values.
It all started with getting clear about our rocks, pebbles and sand.
