PERMISSION SLIP

i never got enough of it
despite the attention, accolades, awards
i only saw the flaws and failures

my reflection in the shop window
merely revealed what was wrong

the weight of this constant critic
dropped me to my knees
and i prayed for help
for perspective
for relief
i prayed for something other than the prison of never enough

the help finally came in a different form 
a permission form

permission to 
whole-heartedly, shamelessly, unconditionally 
love myself

don’t go, listen deep. i beg of you to stay.

to love myself 
as deep as the sea is wide
as whole as the hurt of a thousand tears
as unlimited as the sky’s horizon

i give myself permission to love 
the effort, heart and beauty that i bring
to each day
