monday boost: why duty is underrated

September 2nd, 2019

Passion is a liability. I know this firsthand.

I’ve been told all my life how passionate I am - if you know me, you know this to be true. But, lately, I’ve shifted my focus towards something a little less sexy: duty.

I’ve been told all my life how passionate I am - if you know me, you know this to be true. But, lately, I’ve shifted my focus towards something a little less sexy: duty.

For this week’s Monday Boost:

the case for duty

Passion alone leads to burnout. Period.

Before I discovered the tools to sustain and grow a vision, mindfully, I only had one setting and it was full tilt. That setting almost always led me to burnout.

What’s the antidote to burnout? Duty.

Or, in my own words, service.

This is why I’m passionate about helping my clients see their work as service rather than glorifying it to be something bigger than that. The joy comes in the service.

Here’s an op-ed I loved reading from today’s New York Times about duty vs. passion.
